Midnight Suns

Novel | Screenplay

As superstorms force humanity indoors, society entrusts the Bureau of Collective Dream Assessment to monitor “Sleepers”—individuals whose dreams shape the fate of the collective unconscious. Decan Miller, a struggling, isolated Sleeper, and Kalinda “Kali” Sophia, a skilled but haunted veteran, are among the first to try Midnight Suns, a drug promising lucid adventures and higher pay. What begins as a seductive escape soon becomes a nightmare: users are trapped in a meticulously engineered dream construct, meant to keep humanity in stasis while the planet heals—and the privileged inherit the Earth.

Kali, reliving old traumas, gradually claims agency within the dream and begins to subvert its rules. Decan, desperate and exploited, is unwittingly drawn into the dream city, where his connection with Kali triggers a dangerous anomaly. As a conspiracy unravels and the system’s true purpose is revealed, Decan and Kali must work together to break free—forcing them to confront their own fears and the illusion of safety. Their struggle for autonomy, identity, and hope ultimately sparks a rebellion that will decide the future of both dream and waking worlds.

Midnight Suns

Screenplay

“MIDNIGHT SUNS is a unique dystopian noir that toys with familiar sci-fi textures but rearranges them to create something wholly new… A tech-heavy futuristic society controlled by corporations, set against a darkly baroque hellish nightmare world of fractured traumas, makes for a wildly original backdrop. It's like BLADE RUNNER meets Tarsem's THE CELL. The occult elements help to imbue the piece with ambient unease, adding a layer of horrific atmosphere. The two realities are starkly divergent but also thoughtfully timely in their thematic exploration of the tearing of the human subconscious under extreme unnatural cultural pressures. It's a philosophical observation that adds depth to the vivid visuals.”

“Similar to something like BLADE RUNNER meets SANDMAN, MIDNIGHT SUNS is an intriguing, mind-bending sci-fi set in a great location. Sci-fi fans may flock to the theaters to see this project thanks to its interesting speculation on the future and the magic of the dream realm.”

“MIDNIGHT SUNS is imaginative and evocative of the dream state, packing layers of mythology into the weird and traumatic psychological journeys Decan and Kali take and ultimately become lost in. Their mental and spiritual struggle - as they seek to maintain lucidity and control perception and the trajectory of their dreams while under the influence of a complex drug - is well evoked. That they connect within the dream – an unexpected side effect that worries the authorities – is a compelling fantasy element with roots in shared psychological symbolism. The world seems to mirror our increasingly “meta” existence and serves as a warning of what could be its extreme destination in an age of medical and chemical advances and an increasingly virtual social life.”

“The writer creates a fantastically rendered world here, with a sharply uneasy tone, and rich thematic depth. The material mixes heightened governmental and corporate control with darkly prophetic black magic to create a unique aesthetic that sets the piece apart from the pack in design and look. The writing is sharp, and the world, tone, atmosphere, and themes all work wonders . . . this piece, and its writer, should have bright futures ahead.”
